Oscar Bellfield, a native of Los Angeles, California, was named an assistant coach for the Salt Lake Community College men’s basketball program in 2024 and is entering his second season under head coach Dave Rice.
Bellfield’s responsibilities with the Bruins include player development, recruiting and on-court coaching. In his first season, SLCC continued its tradition in developing high-level talent and preparing student-athletes for the next level.
Prior to joining SLCC, Bellfield served as an assistant coach at Los Angeles Valley College (2021-24), where he focused on player development and recruitment. Before that, he was a Varsity assistant coach and JV Head Coach at Westchester High School, helping the Comets capture the 2020 CIF City Championship.
A former standout point guard at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), Bellfield was a four-year starter from 2008–12, leading the Runnin’ Rebels to three NCAA Tournament appearances. He ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in assists and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies.
Following his collegiate career, Bellfield played professionally signing with the New York Knicks and Erie BayHawks (NBA G League). He later played 5 years internationally, leading the Cherkasy Mavp to the 2018 Ukrainian Basketball Championship.
