Dwight Smith joins the SLCC Men's Basketball staff for the 2023-24 season. The Omaha, Nebraska native graduated from Ralston High School in 2010, with player of the year Accolades and a state title (2009). Smith was recruited highly by Creighton, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Marquette but ultimately decided on Colorado State University, where he played 68 games in four years (sitting out the 12-13 season with injury). Smith went on to play for the University of Northern Colorado in 2014-15 as a Graduate Transfer, averaging 20 minutes per game in 8 games played. Smith has two years of NCAA March Madness experience. He was part of the NIT as a freshman in 2010-11, and the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore in 2011-12 as the 11th seed, where he started in 9 games and averaged 5ppg.

Since 2016, Smith has coached at Adams City High School as a Varsity Coach, which lead him back to the Northern Colorado areas working with skills development programs where he made his name training multiple pros and expanding his experience with international trainings and recruitment before getting into the college ranks at Eastern Wyoming College.

Smith joined Eastern Wyoming in 2018-19 where he was an assistant coach with both the Men’s and Women’s teams. He helped the Women’s team achieve 24 wins, a personal best for Head Coach Tom Anderson. This success led Smith to McCook CC from 2020-23 where he was an assistant and helped MCC get to its first Region Title Game in 17 years. While at MCC, Smith was a big part in recruiting multiple Division 1 players on the men’s side, including All Region 9 First Team Swedish Wing, Simon Akena, who is currently playing at Utah Valley.
