WEST JORDAN, Utah- No. 15 SLCC Baseball beat No. 18 Central Arizona for a second time and became West District Champions. The Bruins came from behind and won 13-11 to advance to the JUCO World Series.
After the sixth inning Central Arizona led Salt Lake 4-3. The Vaqueros extended their lead with six runs in the top of the seventh to go up 10-3. The Bruins scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh off an RBI single from 3B Taylor Ayala and a two-RBI double from C Easton Romero.
Going into the bottom of the eighth trailing 10-6, Salt Lake went off scoring seven runs to claim a 13-10 lead. Four of the six hits in Salt Lake's big inning were doubles. RF Hudson Manwaring, 1B Jalen Seward, 3B Taylor Ayala, and CF Luke Jacobs all hit RBI doubles for the Bruins. 2B Jake Mortensen added an RBI single and recorded two hits in the inning.
RHP Darius Henderson allowed a run in the ninth, but picked up the win as he sealed the victory for Salt Lake.
Luke Jacobs and Easton Romero totaled three hits each in the win. LF Chandler Reber hit a solo home run for Salt Lake in the third inning.
