Midland, TEXAS- No. 13 SLCC Women's Basketball (6-2) went 2-1 at the Midland College WNIT this week.
Salt Lake first defeated Paris College (3-3) 60-45. The Bruins got an early lead as they led 22-8 at the end of the first quarter. Tahys Da Silva had a game-high 18 points and went 7-9 on FG's. Fellow guard Ahnica Russell-Brown added 12 points on 5-7 shooting from the field.
The Bruins then beat the tournament hosts Midland College (6-3) 64-56. After the first quarter Salt Lake found themselves trailing 21-7. From there the Bruins outscored the Chaparrals in every quarter. Ines Babaya played the entire game and led SLCC with a game-high 19 points. Salt Lake had four returning players in double-figures as Russell-Brown and Da Silva added 13 points and eleven points respectively. PG Simran Williams had ten points and nine rebounds.
To finish up the tournament the Bruins lost 74-67 to No. 11 ranked South Plains College (7-1). Salt Lake took the lead into halftime, but the Bruins were outscored 17-6 in the third quarter. Da Silva hit five three-pointers and totaled 24 points in the loss. Salt Lake went 8-14 at the free throw line compared to South Plains going 22-32 on trips to the foul line.
