Sophie Eckery Earns SWAC Player of the Week award following career game

Freshman forward led No. 6 Salt Lake women's soccer to win over Casper College

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Saturday, August 31, 2024)— Freshman forward Sophie Eckery has kicked off her collegiate career with a bang, helping lead No. 6 Salt Lake women's soccer (2-0) to a pair of home wins to open the season.

The Highland, Utah native earned Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week after scoring two goals and assisting a third in the Bruins 3-1 win over then No. 16 Casper College.

"Sophie played great on Saturday," SLCC assistant coach Marli Berg said. "She found the ball first off a corner, leading to a tap-in goal from Whitney Garn. Sophie also had two great finishes in front of goal."

Eliza Doxey and Mao Ito assisted Eckery's goals.

The freshman out of American Fork High School has set a high standard with her training and coachability.

"Sophie is a hard worker who trains with a purpose. She is always coachable and finds success by implementing what is being asked of her individually and in our system. She exemplifies our team culture, attitude, and work ethic. These traits are a staple for her constant development and growth."
