WEST JORDAN, Utah (Thursday, August 22, 2024) — The fourth-ranked Salt Lake Bruns ran up against a wall to open the 2024 season, dropping matches against No. 2 Miami Dade College and No. 1 Florida Southwestern State.
SLCC fell in straight sets to Miami Dade, pushing the Sharks in a 27-25 second set loss. The Bruins finished the match with 31 kills and four aces but couldn't overcome Miami Dade's size.
Salt Lake won their first Battle of the Beach match, beating Daytona State College in three sets. Fuka Kikuchi and Bella Berensen led the Bruins with eight kills apiece. Myka Christensen had 17 assists to pace the team.
SLCC couldn't harness the momentum from its win, getting blown out by FSW, the nation's number one program. The Bruins were over-matched from the start, falling 25-6 in the first set. Salt Lake mustered just 11 kills in the match.
