WEST JORDAN, Utah (Thursday, May 2, 2024)— No. 10 Salt Lake dreamed of wresting control of the SWAC regular season lead away from Southern Nevada, but two losses on Thursday ended that hope.
The Bruins dropped to 38-9 and 22-7 overall after being swept to open the four-game series. With the win in game two, Southern Nevada clinched the outright Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season championship.
Game One
SLCC 0 | CSN 5
CSN scored the only run they would need after a lead-off single in the first inning, followed by Shay Timmer hitting a batter. After a fielder's choice put a runner on third, Timmer uncorked a wild pitch that gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead. Southern Nevada tacked on insurance runs in the late innings for a 5-0 win.
The Coyotes pitchers stymied Salt Lake's offense as Trey Gambill and Kaden Hodson had the Bruins only two hits.
Game Two
SLCC 4 | CSN 7
Trey Gambill staked Salt Lake to a two-run lead with a homer to right-center in the first inning. Ty Johnsen followed with a solo homer in the second, lifting the Bruins to a 3-0 lead.
Southern Nevada cut the gap to one in the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs off Gage Olsen.
Salt Lake added another run in the fifth when Garrett Bauer scored on a fielder's choice.
CSN trailed 4-2 entering the bottom of the fifth but scored five unanswered runs to sweep the doubleheader.
