TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Friday, April 12, 2024)— No. 6 Salt Lake handled its business on Friday afternoon, topping the Golden Eagles in both games to sweep a doubleheader.
With the wins, SLCC improved to 32-5 and 24-2 in Scenic West Athletic conference play. The Bruins look to extend their winning streak to 20 games with a doubleheader against CSI on Saturday.
Game One
SLCC 5 | CSI 1
Freshman Shelbee Jones was in control from the first pitch to the final out, registering nine strikeouts against four hits and one earned run in the complete-game win. The former Bingham Miner went 1-2 at the plate with a hit by pitch. Catcher Kylee Reush went 2-3 with a long home run for some insurance in the fifth inning. Jettlee Ioane also homered for the Bruins.
Game Two
SLCC 7 | CSI 1
Salt Lake took a first-inning lead when the first three runners reached for Shelbee Jones. Jones worked the count before being hit by a pitch, forcing in Kendyl Purdy from third. SLCC added insurance runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
Salt Lake added a run in the sixth and then loaded the bases for power-hitting first baseman Bailey Marvin. Marvin blasted a bases-clearing double into the left-centerfield gap to give the Bruins a 7-0 lead.
CSI scratched a run across in the seventh, but reigning NJCAA Pitcher of the Week Mikayla Jankovic finished what they started with a six-hit complete game. Jankovic struck out three in the second consecutive complete game.

No. 6 SLCC returns to Taylorsville for a final doubleheader against Southern Idaho on Saturday, April 13. First pitch is at noon MT. The Bruins and Golden Eagles occupy the top two spots in the SWAC regular season standings.
