TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 10, 2023) – An early run helped the Salt Lake Community College Baseball team earn a strong win in the opening round of the Region 18 tournament in Las Vegas Wednesday.

SLCC posted a 6-2 win over rival Southern Idaho, advancing into a winner's bracket semifinal matchup with host No. 10 Southern Nevada Thursday. Salt Lake is now 25-16 overall.

Trey Gambill hit a two-run home run to open SLCC's offense in the first inning, with Gambill then hitting an RBI single in the third inning.
Taylor Ayala and
Chip Beck both scored unearned runs in the game.Â

Gambill went 2-of-5 in the game, posting three RBI's, while Beck was 2-of-2 and scored three runs.
Jordan Pace earned the pitching win, throwing 12 strikeouts in seven innings.Â

The Bruins and Southern Nevada will face off at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at Morse Stadium. The winner will advance to Friday's championship game, while the loser will play in an elimination game later in the day.Â
