TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 28, 2023) – The final weekend of the regular season started in mixed fashion for the Salt Lake Community College Baseball team.
 
Playing at in-state rival USU Eastern, the Bruins swept a doubleheader to keep pace in the Scenic West standings with Southern Nevada, posting a 13-1 win and a 6-5 loss. SLCC moved to 23-15 overall, sitting at 21-8 in Scenic West play.
 
Salt Lake will close the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader at USU Eastern. The Bruins will be off next week, prior to the Region 18 tournament.
 
Salt Lake 13, USU Eastern 1: SLCC started fast and never looked back.
 
Highlights for the Bruins in the game included Daniel Gonzalez hitting a grand-slam in the sixth inning, then hitting a two-run double in the seventh inning. Hunter Neumayer also hit a home run in the fourth inning.
 
Gonzalez was 2-of-5 in the game, finishing with six RBI's and scoring three runs. Neumayer and Taylor Ayala were both 3-of-3. 
 
USU Eastern 6, Salt Lake 5: USU Eastern made a late comeback to earn a walk-off win.
 
It was all Salt Lake early, with the Bruins building a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning. Daniel Gonzalez had an RBI single in the first inning as SLCC built a 3-0 lead, then added an RBI double in the fifth inning. Chip Beck also had an RBI triple. Unfortunately, USU Eastern scored five runs in the eighth and ninth innings to earn the win.
