BRUINS: No. 4 SLCC Volleyball sweeps through No. 11 Southern Idaho, claims Region 18 crown

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 2, 2023) – Dates and numbers are important in sports.

The date of Nov. 2, 2023 will go down in the history books for the Salt Lake Community College volleyball program for several reasons. First, it's the date the Bruins claimed a successful defense of their Region 18 championship, earning a 3-0 win over No. 11 Southern Idaho by set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-19; second, it's now been two months since SLCC lost, with the Bruins now riding a 17-match winning streak on the way to a berth in next week's NJCAA Rocky Mountain District championship match. A third number of note is SLCC's overall record, which is now 24-5 after the victory.

Whatever the numbers, SLCC's performance in the Region 18 championship match in Taylorsville was impressive, with the Bruins posting their seventh set sweep of a Scenic West opponent this season. Salt Lake hit a crisp .264 in the match, posting 44 kills and 10 service aces.

Tessa Treanor had 14 kills to lead the Bruins, with Brenley Hansen contributing 11 kills. Brinlie Crosbie posted 35 assists.

The Bruins were well represented on the All-Region 18 Tournament Team, with Treanor earning the Region 18 MVP honors. Crosbie and Hansen also earned recognition on the team.

This is now SLCC coach Shay Goulding-Meurer's second Region 18 championship after returning as Salt Lake's head coach in 2021.

Salt Lake will face Eastern Arizona College on the road in next week's NJCAA Rocky Mountain District championship match, with the Bruins traveling to that site. The NJCAA tournament opens on Wednesday, November 15.
