TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 12, 2023) – The start of the NJCAA tournament has opened in winning fashion for the No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team.
SLCC earned a 2-1 win over No. 10 Indlan Hills Community College, earning a critical win in the opening match of group play. The victory lifts the Bruins to 17-1-2 overall.
It was Salt Lake that scored first in the match, notching a goal in the 23rd minute off a Carles Zameno goal to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead at halftime. Indian Hills then posted a score by Jack Donlan, scoring in the 74th minute to tie the match. With the minutes ticking down, Joseph Picotto scored in the 86thminute to give SLCC the victory.
Salt Lake held a sizable advantage in total shots (19-10), taking 17 shots-on-goal in the match. SLCC goalkeeper Ben Williams made seven saves in the victory.
The Bruins will play No. 6 Barton County Community College on Tuesday in the final match of 'Group C' play. The winners of the four groups will advance to Thursday's semifinals.
