SLCC Baseball opens Scenic West play with doubleheader win

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 2, 2022) – The Salt Lake Community College Baseball team posted a strong start to Scenic West Athletic Conference play Wednesday.
 
SLCC, hosting the College of Southern Nevada, earned a doubleheader sweep to open a four-game series, picking up wins of 5-0 and 5-3. The victories lift the Bruins to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in Scenic West play.
 
Salt Lake will host Southern Nevada for another doubleheader Thursday.
 
Salt Lake 5, Southern Nevada 0: A three-run first inning lifted the Bruins to the series-opening win.
 
Cade Perkins hit an RBI double in the first inning, helping the Bruins score three runs. Jaxon Weatherly added an RBI double in the third inning, then Perkins scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.
 
Perkins was a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate. Bruer Webster went 2-of-3. Derik Eaquinto threw a complete-game victory, throwing seven innings and allowing just two hits. Eaquinto also posted seven strikeouts. 
 
Salt Lake 5, Southern Nevada 3: SLCC overcame a pair of Southern Nevada leads, utilizing a late home run to go ahead for good. 
 
After CSN scored a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, the Bruins responded with RBI singles from Karson Bodily and Hunter Swapp to tie the game at 2-2. CSN retook the lead in the top of the seventh inning, thanks to an RBI double, but then Zachary Blaszak blasted a three-run home run to retake the lead. 
 
Bodily and Travis Johnson both went 2-of-4 at the plate.
