TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 2, 2022) – Nothing serves as a better ending to a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader than winning.

The No. 17 Salt Lake Community College Softball team experienced that feeling in its SWAC doubleheader with in-state rival USU Eastern Wednesday, posting victories of 4-1 and 10-7. The Bruins are now 7-5 overall and 2-0 in Scenic West play.

Salt Lake will host USU Eastern again Saturday.

Salt Lake 4, USU Eastern 1: SLCC closed hard in a strong win to open Scenic West play.

Trailing 1-0 entering the fifth inning,
Allie Laub hit a solo home run to tie the game, then
Lyndsey Madrigal hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to give Salt Lake a lead.
Brooklyn Pintar hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 3-1, then
Kaylee Pierce hit an RBI double later in the inning.

Bailey Frischknecht earned the pitching win for SLCC, striking out five USU Eastern batters in a complete-game win.Â

Salt Lake 10, USU Eastern 7: A strong start boosted the Bruins to a doubleheader sweep.

Lyndsey Madrigal hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, giving SLCC an early lead.
Hola Nakayama later hit an RBI double in the inning. Salt Lake took a 9-1 lead after
Jayci Finch hit an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Angelique Mann went 2-of-3 at the plate to lead SLCC. Finch also earned the pitching win for the Bruins, throwing a complete game and posting a strikeout.Â
