Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 29, 2022) – For the second consecutive season, the No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team has claimed the title in one of the nation's top junior college preseason showcases.
SLCC picked up a back-and-forth win over San Bernardino Valley in Thursday's 'Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout' championship game, moving to 3-0 in the tournament with a 70-65 win. The victory lifts the Bruins to 14-1 overall, along with giving Salt Lake the tournament title for the second consecutive season.
In a game that featured six lead changes, neither team led by more than 13 points as SLCC jumped out to a narrow 38-37 lead at halftime. The Bruins earned the win in the paint, posting a 28-18 advantage in points-in-the-paint and a 34-22 edge in rebounding. Salt Lake also held a 29-2 edge in bench points.
Jaquan Scott led the Bruins with 17 points, going 7-of-12 from the floor.
Tyson Garff had 15 points off the bench, while
Alejandro Vasquez finished with 10 points.
Salt Lake will return to Scenic West Athletic Conference play next week, facing off against the College of Southern Nevada on Wednesday.
