Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 4, 2022) - The 2022-23 season is underway for the No. 5 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team.
SLCC opened this season's campaign with a 97-74 win over Casper College, moving to 1-0 on the young season. The Bruins held a 45-31 lead at halftime.
Salt Lake took an early lead and never looked back, in spite of committing 26 turnovers. The Bruins dominated the game in the paint, holding a 42-16 edge and scoring 21 second-chance points.
"It was a good opening night win for our team," said SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor. "We were a little up-and-down all night, but definitely had a lot more positive plays than negative. This group is extremely talented as you saw, but needs to stay focused, competitive and locked in for 40 minutes."
Jaquan Scott scored 21 points and had 14 rebounds to lead SLCC, while Dwyane Koroma had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Hunter Erickson posted 15 points and
Alejandro Vasquez finished with 14 points.
"
Jaquan Scott and
Dwayne Koroma both had double-doubles, which is awesome," said Taylor. "I'm happy for both those guys. We dominated on the glass, which is something we identified in the scouting report. I thought
Hunter Erickson played a great floor game and controlled the tempo of the game. There are a lot of positives night one, and a lot to learn from also."
Salt Lake will travel for a pair of games in Colorado next weekend.
