TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 14, 2022) – A pair of upset victories has lifted the No. 10 Salt Lake Community College Women's Soccer team into the NJCAA national semifinals.
SLCC posted a 1-0 win over No. 6 Monroe Community College Monday in Evans, Ga., following up an upset win over Butler Community College with the victory that clinched the top spot in 'Pool D'. The Bruins are now mathematically guaranteed to advance on to the NJCAA semifinals, sitting at 14-3 overall.
In a game that was heavy on defense, Salt Lake scored early in the 13
th minute as Jordan Roe scored on an unassisted goal. SLCC then held on, utilizing goalkeeper Theresa Wiesiolek to hang on for the crucial win. The Region 18 Goalkeeper-of-the-Year, Wiesiolek posted a save in the match and SLCC's defense minimized Monroe's eight shots.
Salt Lake will now await the conclusion of pool play on Tuesday for a reseeding of the bracket for Thursday's NJCAA semifinals. The NJCAA Division-I Women's Soccer Championship match is scheduled to be played Saturday.
