Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 10, 2022) – The first road game of the 2022-23 season couldn't have gone any better for the No. 4 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team.
Â
Opening a weekend of games in Colorado, the Bruins earned a 91-76 win over Northeastern Junior College to move to 2-0 on the season. Salt Lake forced 27 NJC turnovers in the win.
Â
Bruins coach
Kyle Taylor noted the importance of earning road wins in his postgame comments.
Â
"Every win on the road is a good win," he said. "I thought our guys showed some poise and toughness in a difficult environment tonight. We knew NJC would fight and scrap for 40 minutes and that it wasn't going to be easy."
Â
Salt Lake led for much of the game before Northeastern went on a run that cut SLCC's lead to 68-66 midway through the second half. The Bruins responded well though, going on a 23-2 run to close out the game.
Â
Alejandro Vasquez led SLCC with 20 points, while
Jaquan Scott scored 15 points. Both
Dwayne Koroma and
Jared Garcia had 12 points each.Â
Â
"Offensively, I thought
Alejandro Vasquez was really good driving the ball to the basket, and finishing and drawing fouls.
Jared Garcia hit some big three-point shots in both halves to help us create some separation;
Jaquan Scott and
Dwayne Koroma were both solid again scoring and rebounding. Tonight was another good team win where everyone scored and contributed."
Salt Lake will continue play on Friday, facing off against North Platte College.
