No. 9 SLCC Women’s Soccer downs Snow, claims Region 18 championship

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 29, 2022) – A battle of nationally ranked in-state rivals ended with a postseason title for the No. 9 Salt Lake Community College Women's Soccer program.
 
The Bruins earned a 3-1 win over No. 7 Snow College in Saturday's Region 18 championship match at Zions Bank Stadium, sending Salt Lake to next weekend's NJCAA Western District championship match. SLCC is now 11-3 overall with the win.
 
In a season-defining match, Salt Lake scored early to take a lead it never surrendered, posting a Lexi Vernsey goal just 8:57 into the match on a Maddie Snyder assist. Snow responded with a goal later in the first half to tie the match at 1-1, a tie that was broke by a Yuna Hazekawa goal in the 39th minute. Hazekawa then scored another goal in the 67th minute. Alec Kennington and Hadlie Bullock assisted on the Snow goals.
 
It was Snow who held an advantage in most offensive categories, posting a 16-11 edge in total shots. SLCC's defense performed admirably, particularly with goalkeeper Theresa Wiesiolek posting six saves. 

This is SLCC's have now won three consecutive Region 18 titles, having downed Snow in last year's Region 18 final. The Bruins have also won three consecutive Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season titles. 
 
Salt Lake will travel to play the winner of the NJCAA's Region 1 in next week's Western District championships.
