TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 27, 2022) – The end of the 2022 regular season showcased some notable speed bumps for the No. 9 Salt Lake Community College Women's Soccer team.
SLCC dropped its season finale against in-state rival USU Eastern, only to have to face the Lady Eagles in the Region 18 tournament opener. Fortunately for the Bruins, the start of the postseason provided the reset the program needed, with Salt Lake earning a 2-1 win over USU Eastern to advance to Saturday's Region 18 final. Salt Lake is now 10-3 overall with the victory.
It was USU Eastern who took an early lead in the match, scoring a goal in the 16
th minute to take a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Bruins got on the board in the 52
nd minute, thanks to a
Lexi Vernsey goal, then took the lead in the 80
th minute after
Jordan Roe scored an unassisted goal.
SLCC held a 13-5 edge in total shots throughout the match. Bruins goalkeeper
Theresa Wiesiolek made four saves in the victory.
Salt Lake will face rival Snow College for the Region 18 championship at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The match will be played at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.
