TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (June 7, 2021) - The No. 2 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer program made history in Kansas Monday, advancing to the program's first-ever NJCAA Division-I national semifinal berth.
SLCC earned a 3-1 win over No. 7 Barton College to earn the Pool B victory, getting the nod into the semifinals on a +1-point differential. With the victory, the Bruins are now 14-1-1 on the season and will play the winner of Pool D.Â
After falling in a defensive battle to open the tournament on Saturday, Salt Lake put on an offensive display in the opening minutes of Monday's de facto elimination match, earning a
Taimu Okiyoshi goal in the opening minutes.
Ryen Jiba scored just minutes later, with Okiyoshi picking up his second goal in the 41st minute to boost the Bruins to a 3-0 lead at intermission.
SLCC's defense proved to be effective throughout the match, with both teams tying on a 10-10 shot differential. Salt Lake goalie
Christian Olivares made a save in the win.
The Bruins will play in Wednesday's NJCAA Division-I Semifinals at 6:00 p.m. MDT.Â
