No. 2 SLCC Women's Soccer opens NJCAA tourney with strong win

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (June 3, 2021) - The No. 2 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer team opened the 2021 NJCAA Division-I Women's Soccer Tournament with a strong victory Thursday.

The Bruins, opening pool play with No. 11 Butler, earned a dominant 4-0 win to roll to 1-0 in Pool B. The member of the pool with the highest point total at the end of pool play will be seeded into the NJCAA semifinals, which begin on Monday from Evans, Georgia. SLCC's victory boosts the Bruins to 14-1 overall.

Salt Lake started well in the match, posting a 3-0 lead at halftime. The Bruins first scored in the 22nd minute, with Anna Pinegar scoring on an Ashlyn Hall assist. Hall also picked up a score of her own in the 30th minute, along with Jaycie Greene scoring in the 28th minute. Cassidy Adams posted a goal in the 53rd minute to land the knockout blow for SLCC.

The Bruins dominated the match offensively, posting a 36-0 advantage in total shots and a 13-0 margin in shots-on-goal. Pinegar took a team-high seven shots for Salt Lake.

SLCC will rest Friday, resuming pool play on Saturday with a 9:30 a.m. MDT match with No. 7 Seminole State.
