TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 19, 2021) - Somehow, someway, the No. 2 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team knew they had to find a way.
Much to the delight of Bruins fans everyway, SLCC found a way in Wednesday's Region 18 championship match, scoring a pair of late goals to earn a 2-0 win over in-state rival Snow College and claim the Region 18 crown. The victory boosts SLCC into this weekend's NJCAA West District championships.
In a match that went back-and-forth, Salt Lake finally broke a scoreless tie in the 76th minute on a
Jonathan Castro goal. Physicality ruled this championship match of Beehive State rivals, with SLCC's
Jacob Contreras scoring on a penalty-kick goal in the 88th minute to give the Bruins breathing room and a 2-0 lead.
Salt Lake held a 15-6 edge in shots over Snow, with a 7-2 edge in shots-on-goal. SLCC goalie
Christian Olivares presided over a shutout in the win, making a pair of saves.
Information on the West District tournament will be released later in the weekend.
