TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 29, 2021) – The nation's No. 3 team in NJCAA men's soccer stayed undefeated Thursday, with Salt Lake Community College downing the College of Southern Nevada in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
The Bruins earned a 7-0 win over the Coyotes Thursday, moving to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in Scenic West play. Salt Lake also maintained its spot atop the league standings with just four matches remaining in the regular season.
SLCC jumped out to a strong halftime lead, posting a pair of goals in the first period.
Omar Gomez posted a goal on a penalty-kick in the 22
nd minute, while
Levonte Johnson scored minutes later. The Bruins kept up the offensive attack in the second half, with
Azriel Johnson scoring on a
Ryen Jiba assist. Johnson posted his second goal of the day in the 54
thminute, while
Jonathan Castro scored in the 59
th minute.
The Bruins held a 15-5 advantage in shots, with an 8-1 shots-on-goal advantage.
Jose Arellano preserved the shutout, while making a single save.
Salt Lake will host in-state rival Snow College on Saturday. The match will be played at 1:00 p.m. at Zions Bank Stadium.
