No. 3 Salt Lake Community College Men’s Soccer Gets Fourth Straight Shutout

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 24, 2021) – The No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team remained atop the Scenic West Athletic Conference men's soccer standings following its win Saturday afternoon. 

The Bruins ended the match with a 3-0 shutout over Truckee Meadows Community College. After the win, Salt Lake's record stands at a perfect 6-0 with a 5-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. 

All three of SLCC's goals came in the first half, with the first two less than a minute apart. Ryen Jiba gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead with a penalty kick in the 23rd minute. Levonte Johnson found Samuel Owusu in the 24th minute for Salt Lake's second goal. SLCC's third and final goal of the day came from defender Jason Chavez in the 42nd minute. Chavez was also assisted by Johnson on the play.

The game marked the fourth straight time that Salt Lake held its opponent scoreless, and the fifth shutout overall this season. SLCC scored at an impressive rate, with 3 of its 4 shots on goal finding the back of the net. 

The Bruins will play two games next week with the first coming against Southern Nevada Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
