No. 13 SLCC Men’s Basketball downs USU Eastern

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 25, 2021) – The No. 13 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team started its final week of the Scenic West Athletic Conference season in style.

The Bruins earned an 88-81 win over USU Eastern Thursday, earning a strong win after suffering a narrow defeat to the Eagles in recent weeks. Salt Lake is now 18-3 overall and 11-3 in Scenic West play.

USU Eastern held a narrow 42-40 halftime lead before the Bruins took the lead with 14:42 left in the game. The SLCC lead would be tenuous many times, with the Bruins seeing their lead cut to a single point, 80-79, with 1:38 remaining. However, a Jay-Allen Tovar score reestablished the Salt Lake momentum, with the Bruins eventually holding on for the win.

Rebounding and offense were the difference for Salt Lake, with the Bruins holding a 37-21 edge in rebounds. SLCC also shot 56.6 percent from the field in the win.

Quincy McGriff had a game-high 21 points, while Jay-Allen Tovar scored 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Max Watson scored 12 points and Marvin Price posted 11 points.

Salt Lake will close the regular season with a game against nationally-ranked Southern Idaho on Saturday. The game will be SLCC's 'Sophomore Day'.
