SLCC Baseball splits CSI doubleheader

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 12, 2021) - The Salt Lake Community College baseball team split a doubleheader on Friday, finishing with split action against a longtime Scenic West Athletic Conference rival.

The Bruins split with the College of Southern Idaho, earning a 9-1 win in the first game before narrowly falling 5-4 in the second game of the day. The split marks level Salt Lake's record at 7-10 overall and 4-3 in Scenic West play.

Salt Lake will close the series with a single game on Saturday against the Golden Eagles.

Salt Lake 9, Southern Idaho 1: Extra-base hits powered the Bruins to a strong win the day's opening game.

SLCC hit four extra-base hits in the first game, with a Travis Johnson double giving the Bruins a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Jake Herman hit an RBI double in the sixth inning, topped off by a three-run home run from Dalton Hodge to put the game out of reach.

Karson Bodily led the Bruins at home plate, finishing with a 2-of-3 performance at the plate. Jake Wilson threw a complete-game victory for Salt Lake, throwing seven innings and striking out three CSI batters.

Southern Idaho 5, Salt Lake 4: CSI jumped out early and took a commanding lead Salt Lake couldn't overcome.

Bodily tied the game for SLCC in the fourth inning but Southern Idaho responded by scoring four runs to take control of the game. Bodily followed up with a two-run single in the sixth inning but it proved to be too little, too late.

Bodily went 2-of-3 at the plate in the loss.
