TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 26, 2021) - The No. 15 Salt Lake Community College volleyball team earned a signature win Friday, downing a nationally-ranked Scenic West Athletic Conference foe at home.
The Bruins earned a 3-1 win over No. 2 USU Eastern, picking up the win by set scores of 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16. The win ups Salt Lake to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in Scenic West play, with the program boasting a four-match winning streak.
In a night featuring two nationally-ranked opponents, it was Salt Lake who earned the victory by simply making plays through the match, finishing with a hitting percentage of .136 compared to USU Eastern's .096. Additionally, the Bruins seized momentum in critical spots of the match, such as in the first set when they utilized a 5-0 run to turn a 19-19 tie into set point.Â
Sammi Johnston led Salt Lake with 11 kills, while
Halle Livingston and
Rachael Warren both posted 9 kills.
Carlie Peterson had 4 aces in the match, while
Sidney Frith led SLCC with a team-high 23 assists.Â
Salt Lake will take to the road Tuesday, traveling to play the College of Southern Nevada in a Scenic West road match.
