TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 28, 2021) – The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Soccer team opened the Fall 2021 postseason in impressive fashion Thursday, dispatching a Scenic West Athletic Conference rival in a Region 18 tournament opener.
SLCC earned a strong win over fourth-seeded Southern Nevada Thursday to open the Region 18 tournament, earning a 3-0 win at Snow College. The victory lifts the Bruins to 15-0 overall.
The Bruins controlled the match early, with
Ryen Jiba posting a goal in the 29
th minute to give SLCC a 1-0 lead at halftime. Salt Lake kept up the pressure in the second half, with
Kai Phillip scoring a pair of goals – first, in the 50
th minute on a Jiba assist; second, in the 58
th minute on a
Sergio Martinez assist.
SLCC held an 18-9 advantage in total shots. Bruins goalkeeper
Christian Olivares posted five saves in the win.
Salt Lake will advance to play Snow College in Saturday's championship match. The contest is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
