Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 29, 2021) – The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Soccer team is trying to do something almost no team in intercollegiate athletics has ever done – win two national championships in the same year.
SLCC continues to power towards that goal as the season progresses, notching another step closer to that dream with a 2-0 win over Snow College in Saturday's Region 18 championship match. The victory moves Salt Lake to 16-0 overall, along with advancing the Bruins to next weekend's NJCAA West District tournament.
SLCC has now won three straight Region 18 crowns, an accomplishment that isn't lost on Salt Lake coach
Mark Davis.
"I'm so proud of our team and the way they performed," he said. "For us to enter the season as the No. 1 ranked program, then for us to be heading in to the NJCAA West Region tournament as the No. 1 ranked program is a great testament to the dedication of our guys. We are so excited about what this team still has ahead of it."
The Bruins utilized two of their consistent performers to move to the victory, with
Ryen Jiba putting Salt Lake on the board in the 24
th minute.
Taimu Okiyoshi scored SLCC's other goal in the 37
th minute. For his outstanding play in both the match and the tournament, Salt Lake goalkeeper
Christian Olivares was named Region 18 Tournament 'Most Valuable Player'. Other SLCC players to make the All-Region 18 Tournament Team included:

Azriel Johnson,
Kai Phillips and
Paul Richnow
Davis said the leadership from his players makes a difference amongst the whole roster.
"Our guys are focused on playing for each other and they want to win," he said. "It's a credit to this team that so many players contributed to our victory today, let alone this season."
