TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 7, 2020) - Saturday did not go as planned for the No. 7 Salt Lake Community College softball team.
Hosting the College of Southern Idaho in a Scenic West doubleheader, the Bruins fell in contests of 8-2 and 5-3. In the process, SLCC's overall record slipped to 11-7 with a Scenic West Athletic Conference mark of 5-3.
Salt Lake will travel to play USU Eastern in a four-game series next weekend.
Southern Idaho 8, Salt Lake 2: A strong early start for Salt Lake gave way to a prolific offensive display for Southern Idaho.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, the Bruins'
Alexis Galloway hit an RBI single to tie the game. Salt Lake cut into a CSI lead later in the game, with
Mackenzy Richins hitting an RBI double. From there, Southern Idaho closed the game with five runs over the final innings.
Richins led Salt Lake offensively, going 2-of-3 from the field.
Southern Idaho 5, Salt Lake 3: A series of extra-base hits by the Golden Eagles erased an early SLCC lead in game two.
The Bruins took an early 1-0 lead with a
Rylee Harris home run. After that, CSI scored four runs to take a lead before
Mallory Barber hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to cut the deficit, followed up by a Harris RBI single that cut the deficit to 4-3. CSI closed out the game with a run in the fifth inning to get the necessary breathing distance.
Harris went 2-of-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI's in the loss.
