No. 18 SLCC Baseball earns strong win over Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 7, 2020) - The No. 18 Salt Lake Community College baseball team earned an impressive victory to close out a Scenic West Athletic Conference road series Saturday.

The Bruins earned an 8-2 win over the College of Southern Idaho Saturday, finishing the series at 3-1 with the win. In the process, SLCC's overall record boosted to 20-4 and 7-1 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

Southern Idaho took an early lead in the game before the Bruins returned fire, scoring four combined runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead. Cole Gambill hit a three-run home run in the third inning to help key the comeback. From there, Salt Lake controlled the game and scored its final runs on a Payton Freeman RBI double in the eighth inning.

Cade Perkins went 3-for-3 in the game, with a pair of walks adding to his tally. The Bruins were served well by strong starting pitching, as Jake Wilson threw six innings of five-hit, two-run ball. In the process, the Las Vegas native struck out five Golden Eagles.

Salt Lake will return home next weekend to host USU Eastern in a four-game series at Cate Field in West Jordan. The series will consist of a single game Thursday, a doubleheader Friday and a single game on Saturday.
