TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 19, 2020) - The final weekend of the 2019-20 regular season is this week in the Scenic West Athletic Conference and the No. 8 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team is still looking to improve.
The Bruins have already clinched the Scenic West regular season title and they've also clinched the top seed in next week's Region 18 tourney, but that doesn't mean SLCC is resting on its laurels. Instead, Salt Lake is preparing for tough in-state games with Snow College and USU Eastern to end the regular season slate of games.
SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor said his team isn't taking its foot off the gas, in spite of its accomplishments.
"It's the final week of the SWAC season and we still have a lot to play for," he said. "We have two very tough road games at Snow and USU Eastern. Snow is playing extremely well, winning five in a row and haven't lost since we played them in mid-January."
Salt Lake will play Snow on Thursday, starting the two-game road trip off with an opponent who the Bruins defeated 81-72 on the road on Jan. 11. Snow is the second-place team in the league standings, sitting at 7-3 in league play. USU Eastern is just 4-6 in Scenic West games, coming off a win over Colorado Northwestern.
Taylor said this week's opponents will provide a strong test for his team.
"Both teams are very patient and have good post play, so we need to be prepared for that," he said. "Our discipline on defense will be critical in both games."
Salt Lake will play Snow on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., with Saturday's game scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Price.Â
