TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 7, 2020) - For many years, the Scenic West Athletic Conference men's basketball race has primarily been contested by three horses - Salt Lake Community College, Snow College and the College of Southern Idaho.
How ironic is it then that the SLCC men's basketball program will face both programs this week in a split home-and-away week, entering the second weekend of SWAC play with traditionally-tough competition. The Bruins are coming off a strong win over Colorado Northwestern Community College to open league play last weekend, after coming off an impressive performance the prior weekend in the 'Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout'. While Salt Lake fell out of the national rankings in spite of the success, the team is in a solid place moving forward into the week's challenges.
"This is a big week for us," said SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor. "We play a very good CSI team at home that annually competes for the SWAC title, and the defending Scenic West champions in Snow College on the road. Both of these teams are talented, extremely well-coached and disciplined. We will need to be at our best to compete with both of them. It should be a fun week."
Salt Lake opens the week with Southern Idaho in a 7:00 p.m. matchup inside the Lifetime Activities Center on Thursday. Like SLCC, the Golden Eagles are 1-0 in league play after earning a win over USU Eastern. CSI is 12-7 overall and is on a three-game winning streak. The Snow College Badgers have yet to start Scenic West play, opening on Thursday against USU Eastern.
SLCC's game at Snow College is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. tip on Saturday. Salt Lake will play at USU Eastern the following Thursday.Â
