No. 14 SLCC Men's Soccer earns victory in final non-conference matchup

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 1, 2019) - The No. 14 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team opened the month of September just how it ended the month of August - undefeated.

The Bruins picked up a 5-1 victory over Northeastern Junior College on Sunday at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, pushing their record to 2-0-1. SLCC took advantage of 20 shots and 10 shots-on-goal to earn the non-conference victory.

It was Samuel Owusu who gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead just 9:51 into the match, followed up by Paul Richnow and Daniel Mulholland both scoring goals that gave Salt Lake a 3-0 lead at halftime. Jonathan Castro picked up the action in the second half, scoring a goal in the 60th minute of the match to give SLCC a 4-0 lead. The Bruins would stretch the lead to 5-0 minutes later as Castro picked up his second goal of the day. Northeastern scored a goal in the 83rd minute but it proved to be too little, too late for them as SLCC powered to the victory.

Statistically, Salt Lake powered to the victory as the Bruins held a 20-7 advantage in total shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots-on-goal. Castro led SLCC with a pair of goals on 3 shots. SLCC goalie Isaac Roy made 3 saves while allowing just a single goal.

Salt Lake will play its next match on September 12 as the Bruins welcome USU Eastern to being Scenic West Athletic Conference play. That match will be played at Zions Bank Stadium while a September 14 match against Colorado Northwestern will be played in Taylorsville.
