SLCC ready for USU Eastern matchup

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 8, 2019) - At this point of the season, urgency's street address might as well be the locker room of the Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team.

The Bruins sit in position to make a move up the standings of the Scenic West Athletic Conference but it will all start with a critical game this Saturday against USU Eastern, a game that will officially open the third round of league play. Salt Lake has earned a 4-4 record in league play during the first two rounds, looking sharp in some games and in need of improvement in others. Now SLCC welcomes in a team that sits ahead of them in the league standings, with both in-state rivals holding much to improve upon.

Saturday's 5:00 p.m. start will feature much to be aware of, with the Bruins trying to potentially jump USU Eastern in the standings. The Eagles are currently sitting at 4-3 in league play, with a game against Southern Idaho on Thursday. Snow College also sits at 4-3 and Southern Idaho leads the group at 5-2.

Salt Lake will surely have a benefit when it comes to offense in the game, with SLCC averaging 94.5 points-per-game compared to USU Eastern's 82.7 points. Unfortunately, SLCC holds the league's second-worst scoring defense as the Bruins are surrendering 84 points a game to opponents.

After this weekend, it will be one more weekend of home-and-away play and a season-ending home game against Colorado Northwestern on Feb. 23. The Region 18 tournament is scheduled for Feb. 28-March 2.
