SLCC Basketball closes regular season with win over CNCC

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 23, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team finished the season with resounding victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College.

The Bruins picked up a 110-85 victory over CNCC, moving to 20-8 overall and 7-5 in Scenic West action. Salt Lake finished in third place in the Scenic West, sitting behind College of Southern Idaho and Snow College.

SLCC coach Todd Phillips said the victory was important for his team.

"Our team handled business this evening," he said. "This win hopefully gives us energy heading into the Region tournament next week."

Salt Lake held a big lead at halftime, leading 62-45 at the break thanks to lights-out shooting to the tune of 64.7 percent (22-of-34) and 7-of-10 from the three-point line. The Bruins were strongly offensively throughout the evening, outscoring CNCC 48-26 in points-in-the-paint and shot 56.5 percent for the game.

Bruins guard Josh Colon finished with a career-high 31 points on 9-of-13 shooting, with Hunter Schofield posting 18 points. Tyler Bennett scored 15 points for Salt Lake, while Asa McCord had 10 points for the Bruins.

Salt Lake will now await its seed in next week's Region 18 tournament. The tournament field will be posted to the Scenic West website early next week.
