TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 18, 2019) - Offseasons in college sports are always filled with jockeying and position-changing, particularly for successful programs like Salt Lake Community College's nationally-renowned department.
The Bruins saw yet another departure of an assistant coach for increased responsibility and opportunity Wednesday, as SLCC Soccer assistant coach Jessica Evanson was officially named as an assistant coach at Utah State University. Evanson worked as a goalies' coach with the Bruins, helping coach Salt Lake to Scenic West Athletic Conference titles for both the mens'-and-womens' program in 2019.
A native of Cache Valley, Evanson said she is excited for her new opportunities but sad to leave SLCC's building program.
"I am incredibly grateful for my time here at Salt Lake Community College," she said. "The athletes I have coached here will always hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to watching them continue to have success."
A former All-Western Athletic Conference goalie at Utah Valley University, Evanson helped
Isaac Roy earn the Region 18 Men's Goalie-of-the-Year award during the 2019 season, a season that saw Salt Lake's men's program win the Region 18 championship. SLCC allowed just 12 goals all season in the men's program, surrendering just 10 goals on the women's side.

Mark Davis said the program benefited due to Evanson's experience.
"Jessica has been a great assistant coach," he said. "She was a great fit for our team and we will miss her. Utah State is lucky to have her and she will do great things for that staff."
Kevin Dustin, SLCC's Director of Athletics & Recreation, shared Davis's thoughts, sending the one-year Bruin assistant best wishes on the new journey.
"Our entire department is excited for Jessica's new opportunities but sad to see her leave," he said. "She performed admirably in her service to our programs and our student-athletes, and we all wish her the best with Utah State."
The Aggies finished the season at 8-10-1, finishing at 3-7-1 in the Mountain West Conference.
