SLCC Men's Basketball earns league win at USU Eastern

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 31, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College men's basketball earned a strong road victory Thursday to stay alive in the battle for the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular-season title.

The Bruins, who are receiving votes in this week's NJCAA national polls, earned an 86-78 victory over USU Eastern to move to 17-6 overall and 4-3 in the Scenic West. Snow College and Southern Idaho, the league leaders, are a half-game ahead of the Bruins at 4-2 in league play.

In contrast to recent play, Salt Lake started strong and never looked back in the victory, holding a 42-33 halftime lead thanks to a sizzling 7-of-14 mark (50-percent) from three-point range. The Bruins would end up shooting over 50-percent from the field overall (28-of-54), finishing with 20 assists on the night.

"Tonight was a big win for us," said Salt Lake coach Todd Phillips. "We shared the ball and had some guys hit big shots."

SLCC had a balanced team effort, with Washington State commit Daron Henson finishing with 23 points on a 4-of-7 performance from three-point range. St. John's commit Cameron Mack scored 16 points, while both Hunter Schofield and Asa McCord scored 12 points. Matt Lindsey finished with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Salt Lake will host a critical matchup inside the Lifetime Activities Center Saturday, with the Bruins welcome the College of Southern Idaho. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
