TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 24, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College men's soccer program ended the first weekend of the 2018 season with a good feeling.
The Bruins earned a 4-1 victory over Northeastern Junior College, opening the season at 2-0 after the Friday victory at Zions Bank Stadium.
Salt Lake took an early lead, with
Innocent Twishime scoring a goal in the 16th minute to give the Bruins a lead.
Juan Manuel Araque scored a goal in the 28th minute to give SLCC a 2-0 lead, with
Enoch Mushagalusa and
Esteban Celis scoring goals later. The Bruins would lead 4-0 before Northeastern would score, as Jean Carre had a goal in the 69th minute for NJC.
SLCC dominated the game offensively, holding a 16-5 edge in shots-on-goal. Musagalusa led Salt Lake with two assists.
"The boys played well tonight and had to make a lot of adjustments on the fly," said SLCC assistant coach Drew Hanna. "It was just a great production from several players that we hope to continue to get for the rest of the season."
The Bruins will be off until Tuesday, when they will host the Utah Valley University Soccer Club at Zions Bank Stadium. The match is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m., with live stats available at www.slccbruins.com.Â
