TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 6, 2018) - Going into their final preseason tournament before an extended holiday break, the No. 10 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team was focused on finishing the stretch with strong momentum.
The Bruins succeeded in that effort, with SLCC blowing out Rexburg United to start a home-hosted tournament on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, 112-82. The victory upheld everything that Salt Lake coach
Todd Phillips challenged his team to do, primarily focused around having a committed team effort. The victory moves Salt Lake's overall record to 10-2.
SLCC never trailed in the game, leading 54-42 at halftime of the game. The Bruins also controlled the paint, earning a 68-14 advantage in the key statistical category. In a night full of offensive highlights for Salt Lake, six Bruins scored in double-figures, with
Josh Colon leading the way with 19 points. St. John's commit
Cameron Mack had 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while Washington State commit
Daron Henson had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Jared Holman also had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Salt Lake shot 56.3 percent from the field, holding Rexburg United to just 36.7 percent shooting. The Bruins led by as many as 35 points midway through the second half.
SLCC will play again Saturday, hosting Green River College at 5:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center. The next games after that for Salt Lake will come in the Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout in Mesa, Ariz., from Dec. 27-29.
