Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 29, 2018) - The No. 8 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team picked up a signature win Thursday in Florida, upsetting the NJCAA's fifth-ranked team.
The Bruins earned an 88-84 victory over No. 5 Eastern Florida, taking the lead with under a minute to play on a
Daron Henson three-point shot. The victory lifts Salt Lake's overall record to 8-1 on the young season.
In a back-and-forth affair, SLCCÂ held a narrow 45-44 halftime lead, thanks to shooting a sizzling 76 percent from the field (16-of-21). Overall, both teams would have stellar offensive performances, with Salt Lake shooting .778 for the entire game. The Bruins ended up getting the advantage in the second half thanks to physical play, hitting 14-of-18 free-throw attempts.
"This was a really big win for us," said SLCC coach
Todd Phillips.
Henson led Salt Lake with a monster performance, finishing with 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point range.
Cameron Mack finished with 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting, while
Hunter Schofield finished with 20 points.
Josh Colon also had 11 points.
Salt Lake will play another game Friday, facing off against Broward College at 5:00 p.m. SLCC will play nationally-ranked Florida Southwestern State College on Saturday.Â
