SLCC Men's Soccer leads mentions on All-Region 18 team

HERRIMAN, Utah (October 26, 2018) – All season long, the Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team has showcased an improved team that looked the part of a conference champion.

To the Bruins, it was no surprise that they ended the regular season as the 2018 Scenic West Athletic Conference champions, with an overall record of 14-2-1 and 9-2-1 in league play. The top seed in this weekend's Region 18 championships at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Salt Lake was highly decorated for its season-long success in the All-Region 18 teams, which were released Friday by the league office.

Salt Lake forward Enoch Mushagalusa was named Region 18 Player-of-the-Year, SLCC goalie Isaac Roy was named All-Region 18 First-Team Goalie-of-the-Year, and Bruins coach Mark Davis earned the Region 18 Coach-of-the-Year award. All of these awards mark Salt Lake's first in these categories.

Mushagalusa led the conference with 26 goals on the season, earning multiple weekly honors from the Scenic West. Roy, a Utah native, finished with 29 saves on the year, while allowing just 10 goals. Both players are freshmen.

Davis, who also serves as the head coach of the SLCC women's program, is in his third season as head coach, after returning home to the Wasatch Front from a stint coaching in the NCAA Division-II ranks at BYU-Hawaii. The Utah native has led both of Salt Lake's soccer programs to the top seed in this season's Region 18 championships.

Four different Salt Lake players were featured on the first team, with Mushagalusa, Innocent Twishime, Jonathan Guadarrama and Aaron Martinez all making the list. Snow College was represented by two players, as Harei Maeda and Av'ry Gomes were honored. The Southern Nevada Coyotes had Maliq Cooper and Manuel Ponce named to the All-Region First-Team. USU Eastern's Garrett Boston and Colorado Northwestern's Jesus Esquival also earned First-Team honors.

The All-Region 18 Second-Team honors were also led by Salt Lake, with three Bruins making the list. Salt Lake's Jackson Brady, Luke Merril and Brajdi Cekrezi all earned honors, giving SLCC a Region 18-high seven players who earned All-Region honors. Snow College's Mitchell Pyle and Quinn Benson made the list, with Snow goalie Jason Meyers being named the All-Region 18 Second-Team Goalie-of-the-Year. Southern Nevada was represented by Marcos Delangel-Parra and Jesus Gonzalez, while USU Eastern had Frank Debry and Mat Clark make the list. Cameron Aragon and Wyatt Nielson represented Colorado Northwestern on the Second-Team.

Snow College had five players earn All-Region honors, with Southern Nevada placing four players on the list. USU Eastern and Colorado Northwestern both placed three players on the list.

The Region 18 championships will continue throughout the weekend at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. The winners of Friday's semifinal matches will play in Saturday's title match, with the winner advancing to the District One Championships in Arizona next week.
