No. 2 SLCC Men's Soccer excited to resume league play this weekend

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 9, 2018) - Bye weeks always seem to have a mix of much-needed rest and yet somewhat-awkward timing.

Take the recent bye week for the No. 2 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team, for instance. The Bruins were on a three-match winning streak in the Scenic West Athletic Conference - part of a 12-1 overall start to the season - and SLCC was coming off a weekend sweep of the College of Southern Nevada, who has consistently been ranked in the NJCAA national polls.

Then came a bye week, where the Bruins had to sit and rest after the red-hot start. Still, Salt Lake's coaching staff is hoping that the time off can help the program prepare for a strong finish to the regular season.

"We did everything we could to make the most of our time off," said SLCC coach Mark Davis. "We allowed our guys time to rest while still trying to push them to maintain their conditioning. We're excited to move on and get back to game-week preparation."

Salt Lake will return to the pitch at Zions Bank Stadium on Thursday, facing off against SWAC opponent Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Spartans have started the season at 0-13, with a record of 0-8 in league play; in contrast, Salt Lake is the league-leader at 7-1.

Saturday's match will come on the road against the College of Southern Nevada. The Coyotes are fresh off a pair of victories over Snow College in Henderson, with a record of 5-3 in league play. CSN is 8-4-1 overall.

Thursday's match at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman will start at 3:00 p.m., with Saturday's match against Southern Nevada starting at 1:00 p.m. Recaps will be available after each match on slccbruins.com.
