PHOENIX, AZ—The No. 14-ranked SLCC Men's Basketball team (13-2, 1-0 SWAC) defeated non-conference opponent Central Arizona College (CAC) (6-7) by a final score of 68-65 on Saturday at the Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout hosted by Mesa Community College.

The Bruins out-rebounded the Vaqueros 36-25 and shot 51.8 percent from the field to CAC's 45.0 percent. The win for SLCC marks its first in the last three meetings with CAC, as the Vaqueros defeated Salt Lake in the District I Playoff last year and in the Sweet 16 at NJCAA Nationals.

Stats vs. CAC: Bruin freshman forward Neal Monson (Sandy, UT) led SLCC with 17 points and 14 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double effort. Sophomore guard Gary Payton II (Las Vegas, NV) added 13 points and three rebounds in the neutral-site win.

Freshman guard De'Sean Parsons (Sacramento, CA) turned in 11 points to go with six rebounds, three steals and three assists and sophomore guard Jaden Jackson (West Jordan, UT) finished with nine pints and five rebounds.

SLCC freshman guard CJ Spjute (Boise, ID) came off the bench to score seven points on 3-for-4 from the field including a late three point basket to help the Bruins secure the win. The Borah High School graduate also had three rebounds in seven minutes on the floor.
