The #5-ranked SLCC Bruins (10-0) roared past the Aztecs of Pima College 97-65 for the team's 10th straight win Friday night. Pima CC went small and used four guards for much of the game, but speed was no match for Salt Lake's size in the paint. The Bruins outscored the Aztecs 55-31 in the second half behind sophomore forward Jordan Rex's 17 points and 7 rebounds, and every SLCC player saw time on the floor.
"It was just a fantastic and fun atmosphere for basketball," said SLCC Assistant Coach
Paul Marble. "It was a big game for our big people--our bigs dominated, and we were able to break down their double-team quite a bit."
SLCC guards Darian Cartharn, Davis Emery,
Jordan Bernardo and Gabe Kindred each dished out four assists in the second half, and Skyler Halford lit the Aztecs up going 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Sophomore forward Sean Carey snagged 8 rebounds, and Jason Cheesman was a monster for the Bruins inside, dropping 14 points on Pima CC. Next up for the Bruins is their second matchup with Tohono O'odham College in Sells, AZ at 7pm on Saturday.
