Shay Goulding Meurer

Leading the Bruins for the second time in her esteemed career, Shay Goulding Meurer returned to SLCC in May 2020 after 12 years away from the program. Goulding Meurer first piloted the Bruins as head coach from 2003 to 2007. 

Under her guidance in 2024, Salt Lake cruised to a 18-10 overall record and 7-3 SWAC record.

The five-time NJCAA Region 18 COY and three-time AVCA West Region COY has led the Bruins to six NJCAA national tournament appearances. Salt Lake was the NJCAA runner-up in 2007, finishing the year with a 44-2 record. 

In nine seasons under Goulding Meurer, Salt Lake is 265-86 (.815) overall and 62-21 (.747) in conference play.  

She left the Bruins in 2008 after accepting the HC position at BYU.  Goulding Meurer coached three AVCA All-Americans and had a top-20 recruiting class in 2011.

In 2012, Goulding Meurer founded UP Only High-Performance Coaching for volleyball coaches. Over the last eight years, she has presented over 100 leadership workshops, coaching clinics, volleyball team camps, and mindset boot camps for coaches and student-athletes at the club, high school, and college levels. The program also serves businesses and organizations coast to coast. She is also the author of the book, 'From Skill Set to Mindset.’

Goulding Meurer played collegiate volleyball for Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina as a middle blocker and outside hitter. She was named team captain and the Chanticleer’s 'Most Valuable Player'.

She earned a graduate degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Motor Learning & Sport Psychology from Utah State University in 2001. She also holds an undergraduate degree in History from BYU in 1998.

Goulding Meurer is from Visalia, California. She was a volunteer missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Santiago, Chile. She loves skiing and biking and has completed an 'Ironman' triathlon.

She is married to her best friend, John Meurer, and they have one son, Evan (7).
