Marli Berg (formerly Marli Martin) is entering her fifth season as an assistant coach with the Salt Lake Community College Women’s Soccer Program. Since joining the Bruins in 2022, Berg has been a driving force behind the program’s continued success, bringing extensive coaching experience, a strong player-development background, and a commitment to building a championship culture both on and off the field.
Over her four seasons at SLCC, Berg has played an integral role in the Bruins’ rise as one of the premier programs in the NJCAA. In 2025, she helped guide SLCC to a Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular-season championship, a 15-3-3 overall record, and a sixth consecutive appearance at the NJCAA National Tournament. The Bruins continued to set a standard of excellence, earning national recognition while developing student-athletes who excelled academically and athletically.
Berg’s impact was especially evident during the historic 2024 season, when the Bruins captured both the SWAC title and the Region 18 Tournament Championship before making a memorable run at the NJCAA National Tournament. SLCC defeated the nation’s No. 1-ranked team to advance to the Final Four, and the coaching staff was honored as the United Soccer Coaches West Region Coaching Staff of the Year. Beyond the team’s accomplishments on the field, Berg has helped foster a culture focused on academic achievement, leadership, and preparing student-athletes for success beyond soccer.
A Utah native from West Jordan, Berg has spent more than two decades investing in the growth of soccer in her home state. She currently serves as a coach with Utah Avalanche, where she leads the 08/09 ECNL Girls team, and she previously contributed to youth development through a variety of club, high school, Olympic Development Program, and camp settings. She also serves as head coach of the #SheBelongs Refugee Soccer team, a global initiative that uses soccer to create inclusive and empowering opportunities for girls while promoting connection, confidence, and belonging.
Before joining SLCC, Berg began her collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Colorado State University Pueblo, where she also worked with the Pueblo Rangers Soccer Club. Her contributions to youth soccer earned her the Colorado Youth Soccer Club Coach of the Year honor.
As a player, Berg developed her competitive foundation while playing on boys’ teams before joining Utah Avalanche, where she was part of a dominant club team that won five consecutive state championships from 2001–2005. At Cottonwood High School, she earned three All-State selections, four All-Region honors, and was named Utah Region III MVP.
Berg continued her playing career at Colorado State University Pueblo, serving as team captain and helping lead the program to a historic Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship appearance. She led the team in goals and assists during her senior season and earned RMAC All-Region First Team honors.
Berg holds a USSF B License and earned her degree in Art–Graphic Design from Colorado State University Pueblo.
