Salt Lake Community College proudly announces the appointment of Gary Veron as Athletic Director. With extensive experience in collegiate athletics administration, compliance, and student-athlete development, Veron brings the vision and leadership needed to guide Bruin Athletics into a new and exciting era.
Most recently, Veron served as Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Experience & NIL at Brigham Young University, where he developed comprehensive support systems for student-athletes. In this role, he oversaw life/mentoring support services, student development programming, and NCAA compliance while coordinating Name, Image, and Likeness initiatives and serving as liaison for multiple teams. His work strengthened the student-athlete experience and maintained institutional alignment with NCAA standards.
Before joining BYU, Veron held key leadership positions at BYU–Hawaii, including Interim Athletic Director and Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Welfare. He spearheaded initiatives that enhanced departmental operations through strategic planning, game-day management, and expanded student support services. His commitment to creating safe, inclusive environments was evident through his service on the university's Title IX Committee as Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
Veron's diverse background includes legal and academic experience as an instructor in sport management and business law, plus work as a Legal Services Intern during law school. He holds a Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration from the University of Wyoming and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from BYU.
Throughout his career, Veron has proven himself a collaborative leader and advocate for student-athlete wellbeing. His strategic thinking, combined with deep knowledge of the evolving collegiate athletics landscape, positions him to lead SLCC's athletic programs toward competitive excellence and educational achievement.
Veron and his wife Ciara are parents of three children – Taylor, Kennedy, and Derek. The family enjoys sports, travel, and holiday traditions. Veron is a JUCO alum (Citrus College), first-generation college graduate, and is of Paraguayan and European descent.
