Coach Marli Martin

Marli Berg

Marli Berg (formerly Marli Martin) enters her fourth season as an
assistant coach with the Salt Lake Community College Women’s Soccer
Program. A Utah native from West Jordan, Berg has brought a wealth of
experience, leadership, and passion to the Bruins since joining the
coaching staff.
In her third year with the Bruins (2024), Berg played an instrumental
role in both the team’s athletic and academic achievements. The Bruins
posted an impressive 3.58 team GPA and enjoyed a very successful
season in program history—winning the Scenic West Athletic
Conference title and the Region 18 Tournament Championship. At the
NJCAA National Tournament, SLCC made a historic run, defeating the
nation’s No. 1-ranked team and advancing to the Final Four. The
coaching staff was honored as the United Soccer Coaches West Region
Coaching Staff of the Year.
Berg began her collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at
Colorado State University-Pueblo, where she also contributed to the
youth soccer community through the Pueblo Rangers Soccer Club. Her
work there earned her the Colorado Youth Soccer “2010 Club Coach of
the Year” honor.
Since returning to Utah in 2012, Berg has immersed herself in various
coaching roles across high school programs, the ODP State and Region
teams, and youth camps. She continues to coach with her former youth
club, Utah Avalanche, and currently is the head coach of the 07/08
ECNL girls team.
Berg also serves as head coach of the #SheBelongs Refugee Soccer
team, a global movement using soccer to build bridges between refugee
and non-refugee girls. Through this initiative, she advocates for gender
equality, safe and empowering spaces, and a true sense of belonging for
all players.
As a player, Berg spent much of her youth career competing on boys’
teams before joining Utah Avalanche, where she was part of a dominant
team that won five consecutive state championships (2001–2005). At
Cottonwood High School, she earned three All-State selections, four
All-Region honors, and was named Utah MVP for Region III.
She continued her career at Colorado State University-Pueblo, where she
served as team captain, led the team in goals and assists her senior year,
and guided them to a historic RMAC Championship run. Her
performance earned her a spot on the RMAC All-Region First Team.
Berg holds a USSF B License and earned her degree in Art–Graphic
Design from CSU-Pueblo.
